About the work

After the Fire considers what remains when the immediate moment of crisis has passed. A solitary figure stands within a field of red, neither consumed by it nor entirely separate from it. Built from accumulated fragments of paint and plaster, the body appears marked, vulnerable and still present.

The painting developed through repeated layering, scraping and reworking. Its surface holds traces of heat, erosion and earlier decisions, while the figure carries the physical evidence of having endured them. The work does not depict a specific fire or event. Instead, it considers the quieter aftermath of disruption: the point at which survival gives way to reflection, and we begin to understand what has been lost, what remains and what must be carried forward.
