About the work

The Last Drop was begun in 2025, during a period marked by the destruction in Gaza and reports of severe drought across different parts of the world. These events shaped the painting’s scorched red surface and the narrow traces of blue running through it.


I returned to the work in 2026 following the earthquake in Venezuela, deepening areas with alizarin crimson and giving the surface a darker, more unsettled character. As the painting developed, I thought about how precious even a single drop of water can become in dire circumstances—and how easily access to it is taken for granted in more affluent parts of the world.



Built through layers of acrylic and papier-mâché, the surface moves between landscape and abstraction. Its accumulated, eroded forms suggest terrain affected by heat, scarcity and upheaval, while the remaining blue holds the possibility of water at its most fragile and essential.
