Debajo del Mar
was painted not long after I spent time in Mexico, where the colour, conversation and warmth of the place stayed with me. I did not begin with the intention of painting the sea, but it gradually found its way into the work. Layers of turquoise and deep blue are broken by small flickers of yellow and green, creating a surface that suggests shifting water, submerged forms and glimpses of what might lie beneath.
