This one sat in silence for a long time.
Lost in Translation came from a feeling I couldn’t name—just a slow, persistent ache. A sense of being in a place where language didn’t quite reach, where even presence felt misread. I didn’t start with an idea. Just that figure, turned inward. Still. Slightly distant. Painted over and over again until it began to hold the weight I couldn’t find the words for.
The surface is thick with texture, but dark. Almost swallowed by shadow. The only light is from within the figure—a hint of colour that doesn’t explain itself. There’s a red threshold to the left, but the figure doesn’t face it. Not yet. Maybe it’s already been crossed. Maybe it never will be.
The piece carries a quiet tension. Not dramatic. Just that feeling of being somewhere where your meaning doesn’t quite land. Or of having once belonged, but no longer being able to speak the same emotional language.
I think many of us know that space.
