Lost in Translation
centres on a solitary figure within a dark, rain-soaked space. Turned inward beneath layers of deep blue, black and muted red, the figure appears slightly out of step with the world around it.
I did not begin with a fixed idea for this painting. The figure emerged slowly and remained as the surface developed, as though the work was finding its way towards a feeling before taking on a recognisable form. The darkness carries much of the painting’s weight, while small flashes of colour within the figure suggest something held back but not entirely concealed.
