This piece holds the feeling of a night I didn’t want to forget. Midnight on Jacaranda Boulevard was painted after my time in Mexico. One night, I wandered through quiet streets under the bloom of jacaranda trees. I’d never seen them before. Lavender shadows spilling across the pavement, the petals catching the pink glow of neon signs. It was like the city had softened its voice for a moment just to let me listen in.
I didn’t paint it straight away. I carried it with me for a while, the texture of the air, the way the light fell through branches, the quiet awe of being somewhere unfamiliar but feeling completely still inside. When I finally sat down to make this work, it all came back at once. The colours, the movement, the mood. Not a landscape, but a kind of emotional imprint.
There’s a pulse to this piece, a sense of time stretched between light and shadow. The surface holds both vibrancy and restraint—fragments of that night layered in colour, memory, and feeling. It’s not about the street itself, but what the street gave me: presence, surprise, and a fleeting kind of belonging.
