The Pilgrimage of Shadows
Pilgrimage of Shadows
Original Painting | Acrylic and plaster on Canvas
Pilgrimage of Shadows holds three pale figures in a dark blue space, with traces of a distant city or night-lit horizon emerging behind them. The figures stand close, but not fully resolved. They feel as though they are moving together through something uncertain, carrying their own fragility while still remaining bound to one another.
I was interested in the tension between presence and dissolution here. The figures are loosely formed, almost worn into the surface, while the space around them stays heavy, atmospheric, and hard to fix. That contrast gives the painting its feeling of quiet endurance. It is less about narrative than about what remains visible when clarity has started to fall away.
What I wanted to hold in this work was a sense of persistence in darkness. The city behind them feels distant, almost unreachable, but it still flickers there. The figures continue forward without resolution, which is what gives the painting its emotional pull. It is a work about passage, uncertainty, and the shared strength that can exist even in fractured moments.
