I didn’t set out to paint three virtues. The figures came first, emerging one by one, and only later did I realise what they were holding.

There’s something ancient in this piece. Not in a religious sense, but something felt. A quiet presence. Each figure seems to carry a different weight. One is open. One is watching. One feels held back, or maybe more tired than the others.

The texture is thick and broken. There’s no perfection here. The surface has been built up and pulled back over time. That process, the layering and scraping away, became part of the meaning. What remains. What’s weathered but still standing.

I think this piece is about what gets us through. Not in grand gestures, but in small, everyday ways. Faith, Hope and Charity, not as symbols, but as experiences. Carried in the body. In memory. In silence.
